Interest in growing coffee in the Acatenango region comes from the grandparents Eulalio Estrada Recinos and Cayetana Orrego in the year 1950. Later, the parents of Ernesto Higueros and Nery Estrada decided to continue with the tradition of growing coffee, until the year of 1988.
In 1988 his sons Eulalio, Nicolas and César Higueros Estrada decided to continue with the family tradition. The brothers decided to join and buy another coffee farm which was named: La Unión Hermanos Farm and it had a wet benefit of coffee.
Currently, the extension cultivated with coffee is 17 hectares that are located in Acatenango, Chimaltenango. The coffee is grown at a height between 1600 to 1850 meters above sea level. This allows to obtain a high-quality product that is classified as: strictly hard bean. The main varieties of
coffee that are held in La Unión Farm are: Arabic, CatuaÃ, Caturra, Bourbon Geisha and Pache.
La Unión Farm main goal is to export its coffee at a fair price in the international market. Its main vision is to give an added value to its workers with better salaries and some human development benefits and thus be able to contribute with the country's development.
